The Scream
Edvard Munch
In terms of construction, I started with a thick pinch pot. I sketched out what I wanted with a needle tool, then carved into the parts that I wanted to add depth. I used a Royal Blue underglaze to darken parts of the design, I plan on adding more color, but I wanted the details to be a bit more clear. I had difficulties getting smooth details, I tried to use a brush and water to smooth them out a bit, but I wasn't able to achive exactally what I wanted.
Edvard Munch painted during the Symbolist Movement in the 1890s. He had very little formal training, but he did run in a circle of other writers and artists, gaining inspiration from them. He was highly influential in the following European and American painting scene. The Scream is clearly one of the most known paintings, and influenced many artistic expression. I chose this because The Scream has been one of my favorite paintings for a while. His style of painting and use of color is something that I've wanted to incorporate into my work, He, and Salvador Dali have been the greatest influences in my own paintings.
